This happened to my sister in China in December 1985. We were at the Great Wall. There was an open air kiosk and a Coke machine. She bought the bottle to take back to Australia intact. The vendor beckoned her over and opened the bottle immediately. It started to freeze and the foam that went out of the bottle went straight up and became an ice block above bottle. The refrigeration temperature of the coke machine would have been 3 to 4°C. The outdoor temperature was minus 10°C with a wind chill factor of minus 20°C. Who needs a fancy vending machine for that experience. I think the bottle may have shattered if he didn’t open it.
